Frequently Asked Questions.
Q. Where do the tours begin?
A. The tours generally begin from Bayeux or Port-en-Bessin and we are happy to pick you
up from your accommodation in this area. If you are arriving from Paris on the train we can pick up
either at Caen or Bayeux train station. If you are arriving by cruise ship into either Cherbourg,
Honfleur or Le Havre we can arrange pick up directly from the ship. Charges do apply for the Caen,
Cherbourg, Honfleur and Le Havre pick ups, these are viewable on the Prices & Booking page on
this website.
Q. What time does the tour begin and end?
A. Generally we like to meet at 09.00 and finish at 18.00. Times can be arranged to suit
but we do like to finish the tours by 6.00pm.
Q. Are there arrangements for lunch?
A. We can stop for lunch for 1 hour and snack/coffee breaks can be taken at any time.
However, most people prefer to eat as we go so as to get the most from the day. It’s
up to you.
Q. What do I need to bring along for the tour?
A. Suitable clothing is the most important. Being coastal the weather can be changeable.
So some comfortable shoes for walking, a windproof/waterproof and a warm jacket or
fleece is recommended. There is room to bring some spare items; these can be left in
the vehicles. Please refrain from bringing umbrella’s, as it can be windy, waterproof
clothing with hoods are more suitable. In the sunshine some sun cream is
recommended. Camera’s, torches (flashlights!) and binoculars are also useful.
Please do not bring pets.
Q. What does the daily charge include?
A. The daily charge includes all transportation from pick-up point to drop-off point and the
guide services.
Q. What does the daily charge not include?
A. The daily charge does not include lunch, snacks, drinks, guide tips or entry charges to the
museums.
Q. How do we travel on the tours?
A. Depending on the size of your group we either use our Mercedes Minibuses or 7 seat
Mercedes people carriers. These are fully air-conditioned and have seatbelts
throughout. Insurance and safety measures are in-line with E.C/French regulations.
All guides carry mobile telephones.
Q. Is there disabled access to the vehicles?
A. Currently we do not have chairlifts but carrying a wheelchair is no problem. Please contact us to
discuss your requirements and we will do our very best to accommodate any special needs.
Q. Can children attend the tours?
A. In the past young children have found the day too long and the subject too difficult to
understand properly to be interesting. We recommend children of 12 years upwards
but we have had 9 year old children greatly enjoy the 1-day tours. Of course this
question greatly depends on the children themselves and you know your children
best.
Q. How many people are on the tour?
A. Our Tours are private so it depends on the size of your group. Tours for very large groups are
possible; we just need to know your requirements in advance.
Q. How do we pay for a tour?
A. Payment can be made by credit/debit card, all payment information is available to
view on the Prices & Booking page of this website.
Q. Are the sites mentioned in the tour itineraries on this website the only sites
available for us to see?
A. No, not by any means. The sites given here are the main sites we visit, we also visit many
other sites during the tour that are not listed, these are our special ‘out of the way’
places where actual events took place and a comprehensive narrative from your
guide will bring these lanes, villages and fields ‘to life’. If you wish to see other sites
such as the Falaise Pocket, Hill 112, Tilly, St Lô, Carentan, Cherbourg etc these can
be asked for when booking a tour.
Q. What knowledge do I need?
A. You do not need any prior knowledge to enjoy the tours but some prior knowledge is
helpful, not essential. There are many books on the subjects we cover and many
documentary films. A quick search on google will bring up many different results and
information. Our tours are suitable for all, novice and expert. There is also a booklist to view on this
website for further reading.
Q. Do you do tours in languages other than English?
A. Currently our tours are in English only but we are working on introducing German,
French and Russian. Please enquire as this is currently in discussion and maybe
available.
Q. We are arriving on a cruise-ship. Can we be picked up for a tour whilst we are
docked?
A. Of course, please e-mail us with your request. Ships dock at Cherbourg, Honfleur and Le Havre.
There is a surcharge involved which covers our extra fuel costs and road-toll charges.
Q. We are staying in Paris. Can we take a tour?
A. If you are staying in Paris you can travel to Normandy very easily by train. We would
recommend arriving the evening before and staying in the Bayeux area or there
are early trains that will leave Paris early to arrive in Caen by 09.00 or Bayeux by 09.30.
The journey takes approx 2 hours. There are trains that leave at 7.00pm to get you back to Paris for
9.00pm. We can supply travel information. Please contact us for details.
Q. Do you book hotels or accommodation in the area?
A. No but we can supply up to date lists of hotels, B & B and gite/cottage accommodation upon
request. Bayeux is the best place to stay. Please download a copy on the ‘Downloads’ page.
We also have our accommodation packages available which gives you the opportunity to stay in a
15th Century Norman fortified Manoir with an exceptional history with accommodation and touring
arrangements all included.
